Key initiatives:

--Mechanised cleaning of 1400km of Delhi's main PWD roads
--Market clean-up through e-machines
--Periodic wall-to-wall cleaning of roads upto 60ft

MCD currently has only 52 MRS, 38 multi-functioning water sprinklers and 28 smog guns to clean roads, but that is proving insufficient [1]

Vacuum cleaning of Delhi markets[2]

12 Feb 2024 Pilot: 8 electric vacuum cleaning and suction machines deployed in the major markets to carry out cleaning twice every day

  • Machines are mounted with GPS and inbuilt cameras for real-time monitoring of the work being carried out
  • Machines are battery operated and do not cause noise pollution
  • Machines can be dump waste equivalent to collecting 800-1000 liters of garbage every day
  • If the pilot project is successful, the markets of entire Delhi will be cleaned through electric machines

Mechanised cleaning of PWD roads[1:1][3]

₹1230 crore to be spent over next 10 years for maintenance and upkeep of 1400kms of PWD roads

  • Sanitation services, including garbage clearance and road sweeping, fall under MCD
  • Process of hiring a consultant for ₹62 crore to finalise the plan currently underway
  • State-of-the-art mechanical road sweepers to be deployed for the project
  • Project consultant to support finalization of the project report, preparation of the financial estimates, invitation of bids, and assessment of the quality of work done
  • Tasks to include clearing overgrown vegetation from pavements and central verges, collecting material swept from the roads and surplus soil from the central verges, washing pavements, and using anti-smog guns and sprinklers

Cleaning of roads upto 60ft[1:2]

Mechanical road sweepers and other similar cleaning machines such as control sets involving AI to be used for the process

  • Similarly MCD to hire consultant for developing project for upkeep of roads more than 30ft wide, upto 60ft
  • Consultant to do a survey of MCD stretches which fall under this category
  • Selected agency to be responsible for end-to-end and deep cleaning of these roads, once a week when sanitation workers are off
  • Similar project not feasible for roads less than 30ft wide due to parking, encroachment and broken stretches
