Punjab saved ₹60 crore in just 2 districts by spending only ₹4.5 lakh in an AI pilot project[1]

IDENTIFIED DEPARTMENTS - AI would be used include health, education, police, transport, finance and taxation, agriculture, housing, urban planning, energy, social services, environment, disaster management, tourism, and labour[2]

Roads Construction/Repair

Earlier Saved ₹160 crore over repairs of non-existent 540-km roads

  • By spending only ₹4.5 lakh in an AI pilot project, saved ₹60 crore in just 2 districts
  • In Rupnagar and Nawanshahar, it was found that exorbitant repair estimates were made earlier
  • Proposal has been mooted to implement it in every district

  • State government is introducing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in GST collection to check bogus billing[3]

Police Department

  • The state police force is already making use of facial recognition, an AI augmented tool, to pin down criminals[4]
  • The Vigilance Bureau is using a chatbot to register complaints of corruption through a helpline number 95012 00200 [4:1]
  • AI-driven dashboards can provide law enforcement agencies with real-time analytics and insights into ongoing operations and events, improving situational awareness[4:2]
  • The lab will also help in optimising the deployment of manpower based on real-time data[5]

Services department

  • Chatbots to resolve problems in Sewa Kendras for tasks like certificate issuance and grievance resolution in easily identifiable languages like Punjabi[4:3]
  • Reduction of paperwork and pre-fed government orders in Punjabi using Large Language Models, enhancing bureaucratic and public services delivery efficiency[2:2]
  • Efficient free food grains services and weed out bogus beneficiaries

Agriculture

  • Plans to use AI for crop monitoring and disease prediction, precision agriculture and yield optimisation and weather data analysis for better farming practices[5:1]

Disaster management

  • Early warning system for disasters, assessing damage after natural calamities, and monitoring crops for disease detection[5:2]
