CCTV Cameras in Delhi: Kejriwal making Delhi Best CCTV covered city globally

--Delhi far ahead of many global cities, including London, Paris and Washington, in CCTV camera coverage of public places[1]

--Delhi’s CCTV coverage is three times more than Chennai and 11 times higher than Mumbai[1:1]

--Top 10 in the number of cameras per 1,000 people[2]

Delhi Govt implementation

Achieved Till 31st March 2023: Total 3.37 Lakh CCTVs[3]

--2.20 lakh CCTV cameras were installed in general outdoors
--1.17 Lakh CCTV cameras installed in Govt. Schools

99% Govt schools have been commissioned with CCTV Cameras till 31st March 2023

  • Delhi govt budgeted 571 crores for the CCTV project[4]
  • First phase: 2,75,000 cameras were to be installed from June 2019 to November 2021
  • Second phase: 1,74,934 new cameras were to be installed from December 2021[5]

  • Operators get automatic alert incase of Fault/Powercut/Vandalism[2:1]
  • Power backup with alarm mechanism[1:4]
  • Cameras installed in consultation with RWAs, Market associations, Police and PWD
  • The CCTV cameras are installed in the school classrooms & anganwadis too to ensure safety of children[6]
  • Access to the footage is available to Delhi police, residents via RWAs and the officials from Public Works Department[7]
