Total Shelter homes[1]: 197(Permanent) + 250(Temporary)

Nutritious meals twice a day to ~17,000, rises to 20,000+ during winters[2]

Dec 06, 2023: Special Winter Action Plan (November 15 to March 15 next year)[1:1]
-- Rescued ~500 homeless people over the last 20 days
-- Occupancy has not crossed 6,000 over the past 5 days; expected to increase as winter gets harsh

Key Initiatives

1. Increased Shelter Capacity[1:2]

  • 250 Temporary Shelter homes with capacity of 5000
  • 197 permanent shelter homes established, with a capacity to accommodate over 17,000 people

2. Improved Shelter Conditions

  • Focus on ensuring hygiene, sanitation, and availability of essential items[3]
  • Caretaker available on a 24x7 basis in all shelter homes[1:3]
  • Facilities[1:4]:
    • Durries, Mattresses, bedsheets, pillows and blankets
    • Locker facility to safekeep belongings
    • A Television and hot water
    • Bathing facility, Electricity, drinking water, toilets

3. Rescue and Outreach[1:5]

  • 15 dedicated rescue teams have been deployed to locate and transport homeless individuals to shelters
    • Each rescue team is equipped with 1 vehicle, a driver, and 2 attendants
  • A 24/7 helpline with toll free number (14461) has been set up for citizens to report homeless people in need of assistance

4. Hot Cooked meals & medical facilities[4]

  • Cooked meals and basic medical facilities are provided at all shelters
  • A free food distribution program has been launched in partnership with the Akshaya Patra Foundation
