Problem: Out of Total 30 Lakh buildings in Delhi, only 13 lakh registered under MCD, and only 12 lakh paying property taxes[1]

Geo-tagging will enable MCD to develop a comprehensive database of properties & their tax records

  • Geo-tagging involves assigning a unique lattitude-longitude to the property on a GIS map
  • Geo-tagging of all properties mandated by Delhi MCD. Initial deadline given of Jan 31, 2024 extended by a month [3]
  • Geo-tagging can be done on the UMA mobile map
  • Residents geo-tagging their properties before the deadline to get 10% rebate on lumpsum advanced tax payment in subsequent financial year [3:1]

Jan 29, 2024: 95,000 properties have been already geo-tagged[1:1]

  • Geo-tagging will enable better provision of MCD services, such as sanitation and road repairs
  • Geo-tagging will help pinpoint illegal properties and colonies, and also help in targeted dissemination of critical information during emergencies
  • Geo-tagging of properties has been happening in Haryana since 2018[4]
  • The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Municipal Corporations of Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune have also shown interest in geo-tagging of different public entities[4:1]
