March 2022: Delhi's Mountains of legacy waste across 3 landfill sites in Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa [1]
TARGET: Clearing Delhi’s garbage mountains was the first of the 10 AAP Guarantees for MCD[2]
38.73% of Legacy Garbage Waste successfully disposed(till 30 Nov 2023)[3]
¶ The Problem
Estimated 450Cr in ecological damage caused by these 3 dumpsites[4]
- Landfills are site of frequent fires i.e. Toxic/Carcinogenic gases impacting lives of people living nearby[5]

- 58 trommel machines deployed for clearing the legacy waste[3:2]

¶ Further plans
- 2 more agencies to be added to expedite clearance at Ghazipur landfill, but project approvals stuck due to Standing Commitee logjam[7]
- Work to hopefully expedite after recent transfer of powers of Standing committee to the MCD house[8]
