Punjab becomes 1st state to have mapped all 784 accident black spots Mappls App (in collaboration with MapMyIndia)[3]

The app will alert commuters by giving a voice message “Blackspot 100 meter di doori te hai (Black Spot is 100 meters ahead)”

  • The Black spot is a road stretch of about 500m in length in which either 5 road accidents, involving fatalities or grievous injuries, have taken place ina year or 10 fatalities have been reported during the last 3 calendar years[1:3]
  • Punjab had adopted this definition for the entire state, covering all highways, and has undertaken the task of identification and rectification of accidental black spots[1:4]
  • 302 black spots analysed[1:5]:
    • 83.8% on National highways
    • 7.6% on State highways
    • 4.6% on urban MC roads
    • 3% on major district roads
