05 March 2024: Announced by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema during the state Budget[1:1]

Punjab Local Government Department will launch electric buses, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs as

  • States will be responsible for running the bus services and making payments to the bus operators[2]
  • e-buses will be deployed using public-private partnership (PPP) model[1:2]
  • 10-year operational cost will be shared between state and center[2:1]
  • Payments to the bus operators to be made on a per kilometre basis[2:2]
  • Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) is the aggregator for the scheme for collective Bidding for all states i.e. cheaper price[2:3]
