Total 58 soil testing labs in Punjab (as of 5 Nov 2024)[1]

1.16+ lakh soil samples tested at free-of-cost till 5 Nov 2024[1:1]

Target: At least 2.50 lakh soil samples during 2024-25

Objective[2]: To provide farmers with easy access to soil testing facilities

-- To provide timely and accurate soil analysis results
-- To provide customised soil nutrient recommendations to the farmers

Details[2:1]

  • 5 labs will be set up in each agriculture block
  • The co-operative department will appoint Village level enterprenuers (VLE) to collect soil samples from their respective areas
  • The VLEs will receive training from agriculture officials on collecting and analysing soil samples
  • Will enable to make better decisions regarding fertiliser and soil management
  • Will help the farmers in reducing the input costs by optimising fertiliser use

1st Plant clinic[3]

1st of its kind plant clinic and soil testing laboratory in Moga
-- will provide Free soil testing and plant disease diagnosis services to farmers
-- set up at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore

  • Latest equipment, including an ICP-OES machine, to analyze soil samples and provide detailed reports on nutrient content, pH levels etc
  • Plant Doctor (pathologist) at the clinic will examine diseased plant samples and provide advice to farmers on how to manage diseases and pests
  • Farmers can get heir soil tested and receive expert advice on how to improve its fertility, and increase their yields and incomes
  • The clinic will also provide facilities for testing water and plant samples
