Biggest-ever road project of Punjab: 44,920 km of roads at ₹16,209 crore, funded by the state itself[1]
-- Includes 4,700 km of new roads plus repair, maintenance & widening of old roads[2]

Mar 2026 (Governor's Address): 40,103 km of damaged link roads being upgraded at ₹12,597 crore by Punjab Mandi Board[3]

Earlier, link roads were left broken for years with no maintenance responsibility

1. Maintenance: 5-year guarantee

Contractor must maintain the road for 5 years after building it[1:2][4]

  • Rural link roads project (Oct 2025): 19,491 km of 7,373 link roads at ₹4,150 crore, of which ₹726 crore kept only for 5-year maintenance[4:1]
  • Payment only after the village passes a resolution that it is satisfied with the material[1:3]
  • CM Flying Squad checks quality of work; daily district-wise reviews[5][2:1]

2. Safety

  • ₹91.83 crore for white strips on both sides of link roads for safety in fog & darkness[4:2]
  • Luminous lane markings & reflective edge lines[6]
  • Signboards every 2 km with road details[4:3]

3. Widening & new roads

  • Survey identified stretches needing repair, widening or full reconstruction[6:1]
  • 4,700 km of new roads besides widening & maintenance of old roads, target June 2026[2:2]

Savings

₹383.53 crore saved through AI-based road survey[4:4]
