2025 reform: School Management Committees (SMCs) expanded from 12 to 16 members: 12 parents + 4 experts from education, sports & co-curricular activities (RTE Rules 2011 amended)^[1][2]
-- SMCs reconstituted in all Govt schools as per July 2025 circular^[3]

Inspired by the Delhi SMC model, where parents actively help run Govt schools^[4]

¶ What SMCs do

• Parents, teachers, local representatives & a student member jointly monitor the school^[5]
• Identify & solve school needs; support implementation of Govt schemes^[5:1]

¶ Training SMC members^[5:2]

• Jan 2024: Pilot training for 600+ SMC members of 145 schools (Schools of Eminence, Meritorious & girls' schools)
• Documentary & booklet made as training resource; plan to train 2.8 lakh SMC members statewide
• Student member made mandatory in every SMC
