₹1 crore on martyrdom

Enhanced ex-gratia amount from 50 Lakh to ₹1 crore to honour the bravehearts after their martyrdom by Punjab AAP government on 16 March 2022[1][2]

₹25 lakh for non-battle death[3]

Punjab takes the lead in helping families of soldiers suffering non-battle casualty as Earlier Zero ex-gratia was given. Also compensation for disabled soldiers was doubled

Even USA govt gives only ~85 Lakh($100,000) under death gratuity program, as checked on 01 Feb 2024[4]

Punjab has always been a land of bravehearts as a large number of youth from the state join armed forces every year.

Punjab Police:
₹2 crore for any personnel dying in line of his bonafide offical duty
a. ₹1 crore from Punjab govt and
b. ₹1 crore from HDFC Bank as an additional pre-agreed amount with Punjab Govt

2. ₹25 lakh for non-battle scenario death[3:1]

1st approval for Ex gratia of Rs 21.5 crore (Rs 25 lakh each) for families of 86 soldiers was given on 04 Dec 2024[5]

Earlier if any soldier dies during his service because of an avalanche, in any accident, heart attack, or brain haemorrhage, in such cases ex-gratia is not given

  • Ex-gratia was only given to soldiers who die in a battle or clash
  • Soldiers’ deaths due to natural causes, illness, accident, suicide, or murder due to family disputes, whether in operational or non-operational areas, are classified as ‘physical casualties.’
  • On 26th July 2023, CM Bhagwant Maan announced the start of ex-gratia amount of ₹25 lakh for armed forces personnel suffering physical casualty

3. Double compensation for Disability[6]

On 26th July 2023 to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, CM Bhagwant Maan announced that compensation for disabled soldiers to be doubled and on 6 November 2023, Punjab cabinet approved it[7]

  3. Punjab Police personnel having permanent residence in Punjab and dying in line of bonafide official duty/operations

4. Enhanced reward for gallantry services[2:1]

Punjab CM Bhagwant Maan has enormous respect for defence personnel and his govt ensured 40% enhancement in rates of cash in lieu of land and cash award to distinguished services award winners. These rewards were not changed since 2011

5. World War I and II servicemen[6:1][10]

  • From July 26, 2023: The monthly financial assistance of non pensioner ex-servicemen of World War I and II or their widows has been enhanced from existing Rs 6000 to Rs 10000[11]
  • Punjab has announced that financial assistance to those parents whose only child or two to three children had served in the Indian Army during the Second World War, National Emergency 1962 and 1971 under "The East Punjab War Awards Act 1948" will be increased from Rs. 10,000/-per annum to Rs. 20,000/- per annum.
