• Indoor, Intensive care and Emergency services started from 29th Feb 2024
• OPD services running since July 2023
• Liver transplants started: PILBS performed the 1st-ever liver transplant at a Punjab state-run institute^[4]; 3 transplants done within a week in Aug 2026^[5]
• Kidney transplant at GMC Patiala (10 Sept 2026): 1st-ever kidney transplant at a state-run medical college in Punjab, done free under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (costs ₹8-12 lakh in private hospitals)^[6]
• Staff around 450 people including 80 specialist doctors

• The 50-bed institute offers OPD as well as indoor services
• Apart from offering treatment for all kinds of liver ailments as well as liver transplant surgery, it will also offer DM course in hepatology and gastrointestinal surgery
• Dr Virendra Singh, a liver specialist and former head of PGI’s department of hepatology, has been appointed the first director of the institute

¶ 2. State Cancer Institute at Government Medical College, Amritsar^[7]

Institute has been constructed at a cost of ₹114 crore

¶ 3. Tertiary Cancer Center at Fazilka^[7:1]

Institute has been constructed at a cost of ₹45 crore
