Timeline

  • 26 March 2025: Announced in Punjab Budget 2025-26[1:1]
  • 10 July 2025: Cabinet approval; ₹778 crore allocated for 2025-26[3:1]
  • 22 January 2026: Launched in Mohali by Arvind Kejriwal and CM Bhagwant Mann[2:1]
  • March 2026: ₹2,000 crore allocated in Budget 2026-27[5]
  • June 2026: Single-member households (e.g. elderly, widows) also made eligible[6]

Upgrade from earlier ₹5 lakh schemes[8]

  • 45 lakh families already had ₹5 lakh cover (16 lakh under Ayushman Bharat + 29 lakh under Mukh Mantri Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana); they get a ₹5 lakh top-up
  • ~20 lakh more families brought under health cover for the 1st time

Hospitals

  • 823 empanelled hospitals incl. 559 private at launch (Jan 2026)[9]
  • 900+ hospitals by Sept 2026[4:2]
  • Sept 2026: GMC Patiala did its 1st-ever kidney transplant (first state-run medical college in Punjab to do so), free under the scheme[10]

How to register[2:2]

  • At Common Service Centres, Govt hospitals or special camps
  • Aadhaar for every family member and voter ID for adults
  • Treatment is cashless from the day of registration
  • Helpline 104 for queries and complaints[11]
