FY 2023-24: Production of 1,81,188 tonnes of fish and 2,793 tonnes of shrimp[1]

New Veterinary Officers[2]

Punjab Government has already appointed since March 2022
-- 326 Veterinary Officers
-- 535 Veterinary Inspectors

  • To further strengthen and provide specialised veterinary services at the ground level
  • 300 Additional Veterinary Officers to be hired in 2024-25

Fish farming Culture

Total 43,973 acres of land under fish farming[3]

2023-24: Fish farming area increased by 1942 acres
2022-23: An area of 3,233 acres brought under fish culture

  • Besides, covering over 1315 acres area under shrimp farming[3:1]
  • 3 lakh fish seeds have been stocked in river bodies, as part of river ranching programme
  • 40% to 60% subsidy is being provided to adopt various projects such as fish and shrimp ponds, purchase of fish transport vehicles, fish kiosks/shops, cold storage plants, fish feed mills and ornamental fish units[3:2]

Supporting Infra[4]

  • 1 shrimp training center (Demonstration Farm-cum-Training Center) located at village Ena Khera in district Sri Muktsar Sahib[3:3]
  • 11 feed mills and 7 laboratories have been made operational for fish farmers in the state
  • A new fish seed farm(16th Fish Seed Farm) has been established at village Killian Wali in Fazilka
