2022-23: Projects worth 3300 crore started in Punjab to build post harvest agriculture & horticulture value chains[2]

New Estates & Center of Excellence[3]

  • 3 new horticultural estates have been established in Punjab to help farmers and improve agriculture

    • Pear estate in Amritsar
    • Guava estate in Patiala
    • Litchi estate in Pathankot

  • Centre of Excellence established

    • Vegetables in Kartarpur, Jalandhar
    • Hi-Tech Vegetable Seed Centre in Bir Charik, Moga
    • Centre of Excellence for Fruits (Nimbu) in Khanaura, Hoshiarpur
    • Centre of Excellence for Potato in Dhogri, Jalandhar
    • Centre of Excellence for Onion at Kheri village in Sangrur

Features

17 March 2023: Project launched in Ferozepur, Punjab by Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra & Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan

  • Initially, 8 horticulture crops for specific crop value chain development activities
    • Potato, Chilli, Kinnow, Litchi, Guava, Peas, Silk, Flowers
  • Bringing potential horticulture commodities onto the international horticulture map
  • Create post-harvest management infrastructure across agriculture and horticulture value chains[2:1]
  • Punjab will directly export horticulture produce in the near future[4]
    • A delegation from Dubai of traders and exporters extended helping hand to the farmers in direct marketing

ITC to buy chilli first time from Punjab Cluster

A Big First: ITC(Big Indian company) will procure chilli pepper from Ferozepur, Punjab[5]
-- Earlier ITC procured most of the dry red chillies from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh
