Rs 25,237-cr action plan was approved for loss reduction, reliability and quality of power supply on 29 Aug 2022[1]

Available transmission capacity (ATC limit) increased from 7100 MW to 9800 MW
-- to import more power from outside the state[2]

500 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) scheduled to be completed by May 2027[3]

Already Executed

  • Transmission capacity increased from 7100 MW to 9800 MW, as of 31 Dec 2024[2:1]
    • to import more power from outside the state, whenever needed
  • Rs 3,873 Crores already sanctioned in 2023[4]
  • Rs. 9,563 crore has been sanctioned in 2024[2:2]
  • During FY 2024-25, PSPCL commissioned[5]
    • 5 new 66KV grid substations and 101 Power Transformers at an approximate cost of Rs.250 crore
    • 200 circuit kilometers of 66KV transmission lines were erected or upgraded with an investment of Rs.160 crore

Battery Energy Storage System[3:1]

BESS will store solar energy generated during the day for use during peak evening hours
-- enhancing grid reliability and energy efficiency

  • Strengthens the state’s renewable energy infrastructure
  • GoI allocated 500 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to Punjab
  • The project, to be implemented by PSPCL, is supported by a Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of ₹18 lakh per MWh
  • is scheduled for commissioning by May 2027

Infra Upgrade plan details[1:1]

Power Infrastruction

  • 94 66 KV sub stations
  • 89 66-KV power transformers
  • 382 11-KV power transformers

Transmission

  • 2,015 circuit km of 66-KV transmission lines
  • 23,687 11-KV distribution transformers
  • 15,859 circuit kilometers of high-tension/low-tension power lines
  • 600 circuit kilometers of 66 KV lines/underground cables
  • 2,83,349 new distribution transformers under High Voltage Distri Distribution System (HVDS)
  • 1,10,117 circuit kilometers of HT/LT lines

Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS)[1:2]

An ambitious flagship scheme aimed at improving

  • Operational efficiencies
  • Financial sustainability
of the distribution companies through a robust and sustainable distribution network
